May Allah SWT accept the fasting, prayers and charity of everyone and make this Eid joyful and fulfilling for all Muslims around the globe.

Kindly include in your celebrations the elderly, the destitute and the financially less fortunate, as an act of Islamic care and kindness as well.

Zakat al-Fitr for this year is calculated to be $12 per person at a minimum.

We pray to Allah to accept the prayers of the faithful during this noble month of Ramadan. May Eid al-Fitr this year bring God's blessings, peace, and grace to Muslims throughout the world and to all of humanity.

The following announcement regarding Eid al-Fitr is for the convenience of our community members and to facilitate preparing for the day of Eid.

Based on astronomical models of the crescent visibility, we can state with a high degree of probability that Wednesday, July 6, 2016 will likely be the first day of Shawwal and the day of Eid al-Fitr for believers throughout the United States and Canada.

Please note that the definitive determination of Eid depends on reports of the moon sighting, and a final announcement regarding Eid al-Fitr will be posted on Baitul Ilm's website by 10 PM on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

Saturday, July 2, 2016 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm

Help bring smiles this Eid to low income and refugee families in the Chicagoland area.

Bring your children, and a brand new toy in original packages, unopened, for a child between ages 3 and 12.  We cannot accept any opened or used toys, no glass, no guns, no clothing.  A good opportunity to take your child to the store and have them pick out a toy they would want for themselves, a fantastic lesson in giving!

Children will decorate the gifts and make an Eid card with help from our volunteers.  Please register at this LINK TO REGISTER

Questions or would like to volunteer of the event please contact Sr. Heena at youth.programs@baitulilm.org

According to the ruling of most of our maraji, the first of the month of Ramadan will fall on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Those who would like can fast on Monday with the intention of the 30th day of Sha'ban.

Several people have inquired about the time for imsak and fajr prayer. The timings on the Baitul Ilm website are for the fajr prayer. Imsak (the time when a person finishes eating sahoor) does not have a separate time in Islam. For those who would like to observe precaution, they can stop eating about seven to ten minutes before the posted fajr time.

With prayers for a blessed month for all,

Baitul Ilm

Saturday, July 18, 2015 - 9:30am

There has been no credible sighting of the crescent moon anywhere in the world tonight, therefore we have determined that Friday July 17th will be the 30th day of the Month of Ramadan and that Eid al-Fitr will be on Saturday July 18th based on the opinion of the vast majority of Maraje.

We wish everyone in our community and all the Muslims around the world a very happy and blessed Eid. Kindly include the less fortunate members of your extended families and the community in your Eid festivites and pray for peace and prosperity for all.

The Eid schedule for Saturday, July 18th, 2015 is as follows:

9:30 AM - Dua Nudba

10:00 AM - Eid Prayer

10:20 AM: Sermon

Followed by Ziarat, Eid greetings and Eid Brunch

Zakat al-Fitr for this year is calculated to be $10 per person at a minimum

Sunday, July 12, 2015 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm

Bring your children, and a brand new toy in original packaging, unopened, for a child between the ages 3 and 12.  We cannot accept any opened or used toys, no glass, no guns, no clothing.  A good opportunity to take your child to the store and have them pick out a toy they would want for themselves, a fantastic lesson in giving!

Children will decorate the gifts and make an Eid card with help from our volunteers.  Please register at: http://goo.gl/forms/12WAOxZ8eq

Baitul Ilm extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and communities of the recent martyrs in Pakistan, especially the martyrs of the most recent terrorist attacks in Quetta, Pakistan. All Muslims and people of conscience condemn such acts of violence which destroy the very fabric of society, and we emphasize that the government of Pakistan must be held responsible for ensuring the security and dignity of all of its citizens. To honor the martyrs and their sacrifice, on Saturday, January 19, 2013, Baitul Ilm will conduct a memorial service for the martyrs of Quetta during the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hasan Askari (as). The community is encouraged to show their solidarity with the Shia of Pakistan by participating in the memorial service and taking an active part in the initiatives that will be announced to support the victims.

All throughout Ramadan at Iftar time – Baitul Ilm Ladies Banquet Hall

We are excited to have the little fasters program return for a third Ramadan.  We will chart each child’s progress, recite du’a and open fast as a group at iftar times.  Please see below for this year’s requirements.

  • Participants must be between the ages of 5 and 9 yrs old.
  • You must be registered by a parent or guardian to participate
  • Registration can be done online at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1OCZMAeK5xDhMMzQrSVLEZlnkQMumcdcEz7zzIy2F7VA/viewform or in person. (registration will close on the 7th of Ramadan)
  • This program is to motivate children already interested in fasting.  It is not permissible to push or force a child to fast for this program.  The initiative must come from the child.
  • Children must be present at iftar time to participate.
  • We request that each family sign up for volunteer activities on an assigned day: table set up, table clean up, bringing iftar snacks for all the children. (sign up sheets will be available at the masjid).
  • Parents must bring the child to the Little Fasters table and check them in.  Parents must also fix a dinner plate for their child and bring it to the table.
  • A full day fast is from Fajr to Maghrib.  A half day fast is from Fajr to Dhuhr or from Dhuhr to Maghrib.
  • Please wake your child for Suhoor and provide them with a healthful meal and plenty of fluids.
  • If your child expresses that they are done fasting for the day, respect their decision, and let them know you are proud of them for trying.
  • **Allergies – Parent’s are responsible to monitor food for any allergies**
  • **Recommendation: It is also recommended that if your child does not prefer what is generally being served at the masjid for dinner that you pack a favorite food or meal for them to have after they have fasted.
